Sara Palin, Beauty & the Beast

It's interesting how someone like Sara Palin who was brought into the McCain V.P. slot has turned into a promulgator of vicious and salacious rhetoric. It's as if a pretty face can hide the venom and rancor that's hidden beneath. They take pride in her moniker or “Barracuda”.

Is this the character quality we want in our leaders? Is this what we are about as a nation? Are we a nation that goes down the road of petty and ugly accusations that feed the fuel for hatred and division. Is it “win without any scruples”? When the issues of the day are clouded by such pettiness and ugliness, a pretty face can do little to hide the real character and consciousness of the messenger. May we be preserved from more leadership of this kind, we heard George H. W. Bush talk in his campaign about a “gentler and kinder nation”, but this is something that is not apparent in our nation with the past eight years of Republican rule.

Maybe, it's time to take stock of ourselves and examine what it is we are seeking in our leaders. People who are capable of uniting us, and lifting us up, not tearing us down, creating more divisiveness and hatred. Leaders who stand for integrity, unity and bring peace, harmony and joy into the lives they touch. Is this contrary to the political agenda? I don't think so, Barack Obama has tried to walk the high road, and stay on the course of unity, focused on the issues of the day, rather than attacking and belittling his opponent. Someone once said never follow a seemingly righteous man who lacks a sense of humor, for he is not truly an enlightened being. Maybe we're not looking for a saint, or holy man here, but something tells me that the quality of a man's, or woman's character can be reflected in the seemingly simple observations of their behavior, their attitude, their humor, their compassion.

What you are speaks louder than your words, but sometimes your words reveal your true character, or lack of it.
